Feline Friends
In the cat world, D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) is better known as M&M (Mazes and Mice Meat). Before retiring to my cat tree ancient tower overlook, I, the Wizard, used to traverse these mazes in search of dinner, snack, and mid-night snack.
While I could have easily conquered these creatures on my own, I did, at times, travel with a party of like-minded, hungry companions. It’s been a moment since my eyes have laid up on their forms (they tend to reside on other floors of the house realm within their own, lesser epic yet purrfectly respectable condescending cat towers), but I still remember the old party clearly. There were five of us in total, in addition to I:
1. Whiskerton – Knight:
Type: Red Tabby (i.e. the orange one)
Signature Move: “Pounce of Righteousness” – a devastating leap attack, often followed by a dramatic roll in a sunbeam
Favorite Item: A tiny, tarnished silver bell.
Personality: Brave to a fault and quite a bit clumsy, but always puts his friends first. Thinks belly rubs are a valid form of healing.
ShadowPaw, – Rogue:
Type: Black Cat (i.e. the mysterious one)
Signature Move: “Silent Sneak Attack” – appears out of nowhere, delivers a swift air-paw, then vanishes just as quickly.
Favorite Item: A pilfered ribbon.
Personality: Independent, a bit mischievous, and always has an escape plan. Never met a treat he couldn’t “liberate.”
Mystic Mittens, – Archmage:
Type: Tabby (i.e. the friendly one)
Signature Move: “Summon Yarn Ball” – surprisingly effective for distracting…somebody anyways….
Favorite Item: An ancient, dusty feather.
Personality: Ponderous and wise, purrs in riddles, and often “meditates” in the most inconvenient places.
Heals-a-Lot – Cleric:
Type: White Kitty (i.e. the sweet one)
Signature Move: “Purr of Restoration” – a soothing purr that mends wounds and calms frayed nerves. Also, “Nuzzle for Courage.”
Favorite Item: A tiny, well-worn toy mouse.
Personality: Empathetic, always there with a gentle paw, and surprisingly good at swatting away evil spirits (and dust bunnies).
My favorite quest:
It wasn’t all about the mice. Once we were tasked to recover the legendary “Lost Tray of Tuna-maki,” stolen by a band of masked-goblins. It was rumored to be guarded by a terrifying beast – the vacuum cleaner.
Through pure wit and reflexes we used our secret techniques and quick paws to overcome this peril. I’d give you details but am ready for my afternoon nap.
How do you think we overcame the BEAST? Share your visions in the comments and I’ll possibly validate you with a head bunting.
